Contact talks between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been put on ice once again.
Union President Jan Simpson said in a statement Thursday scheduled meetings for today (Friday) and Monday have been postponed.
The Federal mediators will not be able to assist due to their current involvement in the Air Canada negotiations.
Local CUPW 812 President, Nicole Chouinard told Vista Radio it’s another blow to what has been a long labour battle.
“Part of it is disappointment for ourselves because we have been at this for almost two years but also some support that we feel for the other union going through this as well.”
She added the delay doesn’t impact what they do.
“We are sitting and fully prepared to get back to the bargaining table. Does it affect what Canada Post might do if they have a little bit more time to be prepared? Perhaps but they have shown us in the past they are not playing.”
The union, which represents about 55,000 postal workers, including 200 in the PG area was set to meet with the Crown corporation – the first time the two sides were set to formally talk after workers rejected Canada Post’s latest proposal.
The overtime ban remains in full effect.
