“Sometimes you have to hit them where it hurts.”
That’s from Local CUPW 812 President Nicole Chouinard after finding out contract talks between the union and Canada Post are set to resume next week as a new offer is being prepared by the postal company.
Chouinard told Vista Radio it’s good to see both sides going back to the table.
“I have said all along that even though the last offer was the best and alleged final offer, no offer is a best and final offer unless it is ratified by the membership.”
She is glad the Neighbourhood mail ban was enough of scare to re-start negotiations.
“I am glad to see they have put something together to comeback to the table with. It is unfortunate it had to be at the expense of the neighbourhood mail customers that count on Canada Post to get their flyers delivered to households.”
“Changing our ban to the flyer ban and something that cost them financially is something we are legally allowed to do for strike action is what got them moving. It’s like when stopping the planes got CUPE and Air Canada back to the table.”
Canada Post has decided to present new global offers with the hope that the parties can find common ground on important issues like weekend delivery.
In return, the postal company has asked the union to amend its strike action and deliver the unaddressed flyers.
