Local athletes earn shot at 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games

After a successful 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games on home soil, 11 athletes from Prince George will be representing their province.

Today (Wednesday), Special Olympics BC announced the “training squad” roster of 205 athletes, 73 volunteer coaches, and 18 mission staff who will be working towards taking part in next year’s national games.

Local athletes from Prince George, as well as the Cariboo and Northern B.C. will be taking part in a number of different sports:

10-pin bowling:

  • Barbie Conway (Prince George)
  • Carol West (Prince George)
  • Emilie Snyders (Prince George)
  • Greg Cole (Prince George)
  • Linda Renner (Prince George)

Golf:

  • Brett Tassell (100 Mile House)
  • Josh Pudney (Prince George)

Powerlifting:

  • Pierce Northcott (Mackenzie)

Rhythmic Gymnastics:

  • Angela Hills (Prince George)
  • Darcy Muxychka (Prince George)
  • Michaela Samsonoff (Prince George)

Swimming:

  • David Dunn (Prince George)
  • Kaylee Ricther (Smithers)

Track and Field

  • Bailie Gemmell (Quesnel)
  • Dean Cake (Quesnel)
  • Tiasharon Billyboy-Voight (Quesnel)
  • Torben Schuffert (Smithers)
  • Tyler Lefebvre (Prince George)

These athletes earned their shot at the national games at the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games in Prince George.

The 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games will take place in Medicine Hat from August 11 to 15.

In Medicine Hat, athletes will be competing for the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2027 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile.
