Update: Police officers & PG Fire Rescue continue to investigate Nechako Bottle Depot fire

Update from the Prince George RCMP at 12:30 PM Monday, Sept 29th

Prince George RCMP continues its investigation into the Nechako Bottle Depot fire that began early Sunday morning on the 1900-block of First Avenue.

“We continue to gather information on the cause of the fire and are asking that the businesses in the area check their video surveillance to see if there is any movement caught around the Bottle Depot between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. the morning of the fire. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Prince George RCMP’s non-emergency line,” ssaid Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

Police officers are working with Prince George Fire Rescue Service as they conduct a concurrent investigation.

The Prince George RCMP is asking if anyone was in the area and witnessed what happened or has video surveillance, dash camera footage or cell phone video that captured the fire to
contact the non-emergency line at 250-561-3300.

Update from the City of Prince George at 7 PM Sunday, Sept 28th

The fire at the Nechako Bottle Depot has now been extinguished but Prince George Fire Rescue crews will remain on site to monitor the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

First Avenue will stay closed overnight between Carney Street and Victoria Street, with the road expected to open at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning (Monday).

Updated: 9:00 a.m., Sunday, September 28th:

Prince George Fire Rescue Crews responded to a structure fire at the Nechako Bottle Depot, located at 1922 First Avenue, at around 5:00 this morning. (Sunday)

19 crew members from four halls arrived at the fully involved structure fire with heavy smoke and flames.

According to the City of Prince George, crews have controlled the fire and are working to extinguish it.

There were no known occupants in the building, and no injuries have been reported to firefighters or the public.

Damages and cause are yet to be determined.

First Avenue will be closed between Carney Street and Victoria Street until further notice.

This is the second major fire to hit downtown Prince George this month.

On September 5th, fire crews were called to Crossroads Brewing’s downtown location on George Street for a fire that caused $1.8 million in damage.

Prince George Fire Rescue and the RCMP are on the scene of a structure fire this morning (Sunday) along First Avenue.

Mounties have closed a large portion of First Avenue as crews battle the blaze.
