Original Story at 8:57 AM

The Prince George RCMP evacuated several residences on the 1600-block of Eighth Avenue after an explosive device was located by police during the execution of a search warrant at a house in that area.

The Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) from the Lower Mainland has been advised of the situation and is en-route to assist local police officers in disposing of the device.

“Police officers have left the residence and are on site keeping the area secure until EDU can attend. Out of an abundance of caution for residents in that neighbourhood, investigators have evacuated the nearby houses,” stated Corporal Jennifer Cooper.

Residents can expect police to remain on scene until the explosive device has been safely dealt with.

The substantive investigation remains ongoing and will resume when the residence is deemed safe for police to re-enter.

The area has been the scene of two house fires in a span of three days.

On Tuesday, Prince George Firefighters doused a residential blaze on the 2100 block of 8th Avenue.

No injuries were reported, and the damage is estimated at $300,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday, local fire crews put out a $250,000 residential blaze on the 1600 block of 8th Avenue just after 6am.
