5,503 hockey fans were treated to a fun one at the CN Centre Saturday night, where the Prince George Cougars picked up a 3-2 win over the Eastern Conference-leading Edmonton Oil Kings.
“Real proud, that was a fun game, that was an excellent game,” said Cougars Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb on the post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.
“It had a little bit of everything, it had goals, some good plays, fights, penalties, bad calls, good calls, it had everything.”
Corbin Vaughan gave a little bit of everything on the ice, with a good scrap with Brady Craik in the second period, as well as the game-winning goal late in the second period.

“He’s been great, he hasn’t played a lot of hockey, those suspensions are real tough then he got hurt in the NHL training camp this year,” Lamb said.
“He’s kind of learning how to play a little bit different way, we can’t have him suspended and he understands that, he wants to be in the game, so he’s changed his style a little bit and he’s really coming along.”
It was another excellent game between the pipes from Josh Ravensbergen, who made 28 saves on the night.
“He doesn’t like those goals, but that’s part of being a goaltender,”
“You look around the NHL, you look around our league, you’re not going to be perfect, it’s how you react after, and he’s really maturing in that area.”
Terik Parascak opened the scoring early on the powerplay, taking a feed from Carson Carels in the slot and placing a perfect wrist shot past Parker Snell.

The Cougars’ next powerplay brought more goals, though not all for the Cougars.
Miroslav Holinka tied the game, taking a bad giveaway by the Cougars, and putting a backhand past Josh Ravensbergen.
On the same powerplay, Aiden Foster was in his office, tipping home an Arsenii Anisimov shot to restore the Cougar lead.

The Oil Kings capped off the period with Landon Hanson getting around a defender with a nifty toe-drag move and sneaking a backhand past Ravensbergen.
The Cougars held strong in the final minute against the Oil Kings attack with an empty net, blocking and deflecting a number of shots from the Cougars’ net.

Last night’s Mega 50/50 Jackpot was more than $111,000, with proceeds going towards the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
Prior to puck drop, a pre-game ceremony was held featuring members of the community who are assisting in the fight against cancer, or who are battling cancer themselves.
This included three-year-old Mavrik Turnbull, and seven-year-old Nixon, who got to be one of the Junior Cougars on the ice with the starting lineup.
The Cougars (16-7-0-0) are on top of the WHL’s B.C. Division.
