RCMP respond to serious incident outside temporary shelter in Quesnel

Quesnel RCMP confirm that they were called to the 300 block of Elliott Street on Monday morning, at around 8:00.

Sergeant Clay Kronebusch said they were told a man was trying to break into the building.

“The man attempted to gain entry to the shelter, trying to access a person who was utilizing the services at that location by breaking windows with a hammer.”

“Workers and people within the location were required to shelter in place. Police located and arrested the man a short distance away.”

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Kronebusch says 37-year-old Patrick Russell is now facing charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and mischief.

He’s scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, for a bail hearing.
