You only need to score one more than the other team to win a hockey game, and sometimes you only need to score one, period.
Only one goal was needed as the Prince George Cougars clawed out a 1-0 win over the Wenatchee Wild.
“Right from the start, it was a tough game,” said Cougars Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb on the post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.
“Their penalty killing was really good, the goalie made some saves. That was a 1-0 win and it looked like it.”
While Josh Ravensbergen came away with the win and a 17 save shutout, Wenatchee’s Cal Conway was stellar, holding the Wild in the game with a 30-save performance.
Dmitri Yakutsenak scored the game’s only goal, tipping home a Carson Carels point shot off a faceoff 13:10 into the opening period.

The Cougars had the man advantage five times on the night, but Wenatchee’s penalty kill held strong, not allowing one of the best powerplays in the Western Hockey League to score.
“I thought we were a little wobbly on the powerplay also, but it has a lot to do with them,” Lamb said.
“I saw some frustration from our guys because it’s usually pretty good, we couldn’t do what we wanted out there, but that has a lot to do with them.”
The win was the 40th on the season for the Cougars.
“It’s gratifying, the 40-win mark is kind of the benchmark, and it means you had a really good season,” Lamb said.
“We’ve done that the last few years, it’s been a lot of good work by a lot of people and we’re pretty happy with where we’re at.”
