Five doctors to start practicing this summer in Burns Lake

Five new doctors have been hired by Northern Health to work in Burns Lake.

The health authority said they were recruited in December and are expected to start working this summer.

It added the physician shortage over the past year has resulted in last-minute service interruptions at the Lakes District Hospital with only a third of positions filled.

“In the meantime, local staff and physicians continue to work tirelessly to maintain access to healthcare in the community,” Northern Health said.

The health authority is grateful for the three local doctors who are covering the emergency department, along with the nurses, nurse practitioners, laboratory staff, locums, and support staff.
