One of the sure signs that spring is in the air in the Northern Capital, the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of Northern BC’s annual Home and Garden Show took over the Kin Centre in Prince George this weekend.
“It’s been so amazing, lots of different activities that we have in both Kin 1 and Kin 2, and outside with the FMX show, it’s been an amazing year,” said Executive Officer Kathy Carlson.

“We’re springboarding into Summer, and so this gives people a really great idea or ideas on what to do for renovations and gardening and different home-type activities.”
This year saw the return of the Kutthroat Construction competition as well.
“That is two different building teams with, each one has a builder, a supplier and a charity they’re building for,” Carlson said.
“What they’re building is going to go up for auction, one is a greenhouse, and the other is an outdoor kitchen.”
The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and the PG Humane Society are benefitting from the auction this year.
The Kutthroat Construction competition started with three different teams building playhouses last year, with Carlson saying the event will hopefully become a staple.
The Kid Zone was a new addition for this year’s event.
“Last year, we noticed that we had lots of families coming in, but we had no real activities and experiences for families and kids, so this year we really wanted to pack in some activities and experiences for kids,” Carlson said.
“We have the kids zone in here, we have the RC racers in Kin 2, outside we have the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum with their little train, we have Exploration Place, Huble Homestead, Two Rivers and the Railway Museum in Kin 2 as well doing different activities, so I think that has helped to bring in and keep some of our kids really happy and having fun while they’re here.”

Carlson said for next year, they’re hoping to expand on homes, hobbies and horsepower.
