BC Wildfire Service has begun to see wildfires scattered across the province, primarily in northern B.C.
12 of the 16 listed wildfires on the service’s map are located in the north, including five in the Prince George Fire Centre, six in the Cariboo, and one in the Northwest.
As of this morning (Thursday), both the Prince George and Cariboo Fire Centre have an out of control wildfire that crews have been responding to.
The one in PG is located at Stuart Lake, and is 3 hectares in size, with the Cariboo’s being 70 hectares roughly 180 kilometres west of Quesnel.
B.C. forecasters have said there’s an increased flood hazard in parts of the province, including North Interior regions, with drought expected to persist in the northeast and central regions.
They also expect an active spring wildfire season, with warmer-than-normal temperatures across much of B.C. through July.
