Category 2 and 3 fire prohibitions to be lifted in Stuart Nechako Forest District

Category two and three open fires will once again be permitted in the Stuart Nechako Forest District.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Category 2 and 3 open fires will be permitted once again in the Stuart Nechako Forest District, or the Vanderhoof and Fort. St. James zones.

PG Fire Centre recorded 25,000 lightning strikes in past week as late-July warm spell persists

Province-wide there are 85 active wildfires, five them are considered of note.  Three of them are surrounding the Boston Bar area, which has closed two major roadways Highway 1 and Highway 3 (closed at Manning Park). The only roadway connecting the Lower Mainland and the Interior is Highway 5.

Among the six wildfires that are active in our area, half are under control while the remaining three are either being held or out of control. Only 478 hectares have burned so far in the Prince George Fire Centre this year.

Starting at noon today (Tuesday), the remaining category 2 and 3 open fire prohibitions will be lifted for the Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Fort Nelson fire zones.

Campfire ban being rescinded in parts of the Prince George Fire Centre

As of noon today (Tuesday), the campfire prohibition is ending in parts of the Prince George Fire Centre.  According to the BC Wildfire Service, campfires will be permitted in the Prince George Fire Zone, Robson Valley Fire Zone, VanJam Fire Zone, and Mackenzie Fire Zone (Prince George Forest District, the Mackenzie Forest District, and the Stuart Nechako Forest District).
