All remains quiet in the Prince George Fire Centre.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, there are nine active wildfires in our region – seven of which are either under control or being held.
Fire Information Officer, Muhammad Tariq told MyPGNow.com the crews that are on the ground have not put operations into cruise control.
“A slower season to date does not actually mean the wildfire risk has passed. We continue to monitor underlying fuel conditions as we can see fire danger building up in the Robson Valley, VanJam and Fort Nelson fire zones.”
“The largest fire within our fire centre this year was 206 hectares. Our initial attack success combined with favourable weather conditions has helped limit the sustained fire growth across the region.”
In addition, the Prince George Fire Centre is also providing a helping hand to those on the ground battling the Summerland-area wildfires.
Tariq noted resources have been deployed to the South Okanagan and Kamloops Fire Centre due to the larger volume of blazes.
“Additional Para Attack resources based in Fort St. John were also deployed aboard a second fixed-wing air craft to support emerging wildfires in the Summerland-area after a request for immediate assistance.”
“For the past few weeks, the Prince George Fire Centre Para Attack crews have been deployed to the Kamloops Fire Centre, which were supported by a fixed-wing air craft where there has been a sustained initial attack response as wildfire activity increased.”
Currently, there are 106 active fires in B.C. – four of which are of note.
