Update: 1:19 p.m., Monday, May 4:
Telus says technicians are actively working to repair damage caused to a fibre line, which has disrupted service in the northwestern part of the province.
Telus anticipates service will be restored for customers across the region between mid-afternoon and this evening.
In the mean time, customers are able to use cellphones through emergency roaming activated with another carrier, and 9-1-1 services remain available.
Landline service continues to be available to some customers as well.
Original Story:
A fibre cut has some Telus customers in the Northwest, including Masset, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Hazelton, Smithers, and Burns Lake, without internet, TV, home, and wireless service.
A Telus spokesperson confirmed to My Prince George Now the damage was caused by vandals attempting to steal copper cables, who cut through fibre lines.
They added Telus is bringing in specialized equipment to repair the damage.
Landline service is available to some customers in the affected communities.
9-1-1 services remain available through a Telus backup system.
Emergency roaming with another carrier has been activated as well, so customers can continue to use their cell phones.
