Cougars swap import picks with Saskatoon ahead of Prospects Draft

The Prince George Cougars will likely wait until next year to make a pick in the CHL Import Draft.

The Cougars traded their first round pick in this year’s import draft to the Saskatoon Blades, in exchange for Saskatoon’s first round import draft pick in 2027.

The trade comes ahead of the WHL Prospects Draft, which starts with the first round this afternoon at 4:30.

Barring any further trades, the Cougars will have to wait until tomorrow in the second round, when they pick 41st overall.

The Cougars have the following picks in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft:

  • Round 2 – 41st overall
  • Round 4 – 87th overall
  • Round 5 – 110th overall, 115th overall (From EVT)
  • Round 6 – 133rd overall
  • Round 7 – 152nd Overall (From SAS), 156th overall
  • Round 8 – 172nd overall (SEA), 179th overall, 180th overall (From EDM)

The Cougars’ 2026 first round pick was included in the package sent to the Blades to acquire Ben Riche last season.
