Some Northern BC RCMP officers could be supporting FIFA World Cup

Communities across BC, including the north, could be down a few RCMP officers ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver.

Corporal Brett Urano said while he can’t share specific detachments sending personnel, the BC RCMP has capacity to surge resources from across the province to support events like these.

Urano noted resources aren’t drawn from detachments or units facing immediate operational pressures or local priorities.

“Our deployment strategy is carefully managed to ensure that public safety is maintained in every community across B.C., in which the RCMP is the police of jurisdiction.”

FIFA World Cup matches take place in Vancouver from Saturday, June 13th to Sunday, July 7th, at BC Place.
