Local northern and central B.C. governments are in Prince George this week for this year’s North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) general meeting.
The meeting is for local leaders to learn and collaborate on advocacy to advance economic and community resilience, and discuss shared issues affecting the governments.
When it comes to Prince George, Mayor Simon Yu explains the importance of local governments meeting.
“Prince George is a supply and logistics centre for northern communities.”
“We look at Dawson Creek, Houston, Smithers, Burns Lake, all the way to Prince Rupert, we look at all of them as an integral part of Prince George.”
Yu added that what’s good economically in other northern communities is also good for PG, but also face the same challenges such as forestry, as well as opportunities including mining and industrial projects.
The Annual General Meeting for NCLGA began on Wednesday, and wraps up today (Friday) at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.
The final day will include the remaining sessions on resolutions to vote on, as well as a presentation from Co-host communities on their ongoing projects, latest developments and more.
More information about NCLGA can be found here.
