SD57 approves updated meeting calendar and 2028-29 school year calendar

School District 57 Trustees approved a revised meeting calendar for the upcoming school year at Monday’s meeting.

Originally, the first board meeting with the newly elected members was scheduled for October 17th, but was pushed to November 10th to follow section 49 of the School Act, stating the term of a trustee elected at a general school election begins on the first Monday after November 1st.

Trustee Sarah Holland did raise a concern about the closed meeting on October 13th, noting if any issues come up that need public hearing, if they would be able to have a public board meeting scheduled before elections on October 17th, if need be.

Trustee Shar McCrory echoed Holland’s concern, asking if it would be beneficial to include another public board meeting.

Superintendent Jameel Aziz said if there is a need for an open meeting it could be scheduled, adding that they could take a wait and see approach, as anything can change between now and then.

The other public board meetings scheduled include:

  • January 12th, 2027
  • February 9th, 2027
  • April 13th, 2027
  • May 11th, 2027
  • June 8th, 2027

Trustee Holland was the only member opposed to the calendar revision.

The 2028-29 school calendar was also presented, which is being shown early for public feedback and planning for parents and staff to plan holidays.

The 2028-29 school calendar was unanimously approved.

Other items discussed during the meeting include the five-year capital plan bylaw, and the Strategic Plan.
