SD57 looking ahead with strategic planning results

School District 57 Trustees were presented the results gathered for its Strategic Plan during Monday’s board meeting.

The information was gathered with the help of Roots and Rivers, conducting surveys with School District leadership, community members, while speaking with focus groups and having community partner interviews.

Superintendent Jameel Aziz said they were happy with the amount of feedback, seeing 896 community responses.

“There were comments about recruitment and retention, certainly comments from our rural communities feeling that there could be more structure and support for them.”

“I would say on the positive side, I was really pleased to see people emphasize that they were really happy with both our extracurricular and fine arts and other programs that are available to students.”

Even though the School District has been aware of most of the issues identified in the survey results, Aziz said some of them are a lot more difficult to solve, such as recruitment and retention, which is an issue facing other School Districts across Canada.

Aziz said they look to ratify the plan during September’s meeting, reminding the community that the plan is a vision statement with higher visionary goals, and the operational plan, which will be formulated after the strategic plan, will flesh out how to achieve those goals.

Other items discussed during the meeting include the five-year capital plan bylaw, the 2026-27 board meeting Calendar, and the 2028-29 school calendar.
