Improvements in the regional economy led to an increase in home sales for the north during June.
According to the BC Real Estate Association, 496 unit sales were made, a spike of 22 transactions when compared to 12 months earlier.
BCREA Economist, Amit Sidhu told MyPGNow.com if global tensions don’t go over the edge, the improved figures could last for a while.
“I think as long as we have a little bit of a sense of calm in the global economy and I think that if we have some peace in that regard and if inflation data doesn’t continue to move out of the expectations of the Bank of Canada. If the rates remain where they are, this trend can continue.”
“We also saw our regional count, which tracks monthly growth in major areas of the province. In the north, we had a positive reading in April and that was the first positive one for growth in well over a year for growth.”
The north had 2,192 active listings in June, a decrease of 11 (2,203) when compared to June of 2025.
Province-wide, 7,225 residential unit sales were recorded in June 2026, up 0.9 per cent from twelve months earlier.
The average residential price in B.C. last month was down 0.8 per cent at $946,878 compared to $954,712 in June of 2025.
Last week, the BC Northern Real Estate Board issued its second-quarter report.
The agency stated 2,315 properties were sold in the first six months of 2026, down slightly from the 2,338 sales reported during the same point in 2025.
The value of these properties was $1 billion the same amount in 2025.
