City Council appoints Skakun as City rep on Blackwater Community Liaison Committee

Prince George City Council will have a representative on the Blackwater Gold Community Liaison Committee.

At this week’s meeting, City Council voted to appoint Councillor Brian Skakun as the City’s representative on the committee, with Councillor Ron Polillo appointed as an alternate.

The purpose of this committee is to provide information to Blackwater Gold on project effects in members’ communities, provide advice to Blackwater Gold on mitigation measures to address social and economic effects, and review and comment on the Community Effects Monitoring and Management Plan and the plan’s implementation.

The establishment of the committee was a requirement of the mine’s environmental assessment certificate.

The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for July 29.

The Blackwater Mine is roughly 110 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof.
