Prince George Arm Wrestler claims two golds at nationals

A Prince George arm wrestler returned home with some hardware from the Canadian Arm Wrestling Nationals.

Dan Gallo competed in the tournament, held in Moncton from June 26-28.

Gallo finished first in the Men’s 80kg class for both left and right hands in the Masters category. He also claimed a 13th place finish for the left hand and an 11th place finish for the right hand in the Men’s 80 kg Senior category.

“When I got there I was still about three and a half, four pounds above weight so I had to spend about six hours in the bathtub to make it down,” Gallo said with a chuckle. “That definitely took quite a bit out of me.”

Gallo, along with Alex Maritsas who is also from Prince George, is also set to compete as part of the Vancouver Wildcats in the new Team Arm Wrestling Federation.

The Team Arm Wrestling Federation consists of eight teams, four of which are in Canada, with the other four in the United States.

However, Gallo was told he would not be a starter for the team.

“One of the other guys is going to be a starter and I’m on reserve,” he explained. “When I first signed up for that, I was just starting my new job, so I couldn’t 100 per cent guarantee it, and they had already told one of the other guys he was going to be my backup, but because I couldn’t 100 per cent guarantee it, he is supposed to be the starter.”

Gallo hopes he will be back to being a starter after the first exhibition match, which is set for August 29th in Calgary, against the Calgary Rangers. The Wildcat’s regular season is set to open on November 28 in Vancouver against Montreal.
