In just under a month, a handful of frontline emergency crew members will be cycling for this year’s Cops for Cancer Tour de North.
The ride, starting in Fort St John, is a fundraiser geared towards pediatric cancer, with money going towards Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes.
Rider Nicole Wiebe said everyone taking part is riding with somebody in their hearts.
“Nobody is unaffected by cancer in Prince George and the greater northern B.C. community.”
“Myself, I’ve lost grandparents, and have friends and family that have been affected by cancer, so I’m keeping them in my mind and in my heart while I’m out there riding.”
Dale Baker, who will also be riding, said every rider is obligated to raise at least $3,000, adding that while it sounds like a lot, reaching out to communities and explaining why they’re riding and how to help makes the goal more achievable.
15 riders will be hitting the road from September 11th to the 17th, travelling over 800 kilometres to Williams Lake.
Last year, the riders managed to raise $280,000.
