Sarah Holland launches re-election bid as PG school trustee

A School District 57 Trustee is seeking re-election to the Board of Education this fall.

Sarah Holland announced today (Tuesday) she will once again put her name on the ballot for the October 17th municipal election.

Holland was elected in the 2023 by-election and is completing her first term as trustee.

“I’m running again because I want to use what I’ve learned over this term to help the district improve learning, well-being, and opportunity for every student, and because there is work I want to continue,” Holland said.

Her priorities for the next term include maintaining fiscal stability, continuing the review of the Board’s modernized policies to make sure they actually work in practice, and strengthening constructive working relationships across the district and community.

“My approach to the work is pretty straightforward: come prepared, work constructively, and think beyond today’s vote,” Holland said. “That means reading the agenda packages, doing the research, and asking the questions. It means treating people, process, and decisions with respect. And it means considering policy, finances, and what actually works for students.”

During her current term, Holland has chaired both the Board’s Policy Advisory Committee and the Ad Hoc Policy Committee.

In January, she was elected by trustee representatives from boards across British Columbia to represent the Northern Interior on the Board of Directors of the BC Public School Employers’ Association, which represents B.C.’s 60 public boards of education in labour relations and collective bargaining.

Holland’s involvement in public education began in 2006 through school Parent Advisory Councils. She became involved at the district level during the 2010 school closure process, and later served as chair of the District Parent Advisory Council.
