B.C’s police watchdog says PG Mounties won’t face discipline for George Street incident

Officers of the Prince George RCMP have been cleared of any wrongdoing in relation to an April 2025 incident.

In March, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC completed its investigation where officers responded to a reported disturbance caused by a man shouting and behaving erratically outside a gas station in the 100 block of George Street.

According to the police watchdog, when officers arrived, they found a man matching the description provided by the caller in a nearby parking lot in the 100 block of Queensway.

The report stated officers responded and took the man into custody.

An energy weapon, or Taser, was used during the arrest, and the man was taken to the RCMP detachment cells.

BC Emergency Health Services were called to assess the man as he was believed to be in a state of psychosis. Paramedics transported him to a hospital where he was found to be suffering from a serious medical condition.

Chief civilian director Jessica Berglund determined there is no evidence to suggest the level of force used during the incident was excessive.
