Massive Shakeup at PG City Hall: Tim Bennett, Ron Polillo lose council seats

The next Prince George City council will have five fresh faces on it for the next four years.

Nicole Fraser, Dan Pears, James Steidle, Bob Radloff and Dan McLaren all got elected tonight (Saturday).

Two people who will not be part of the council table going forward are Ron Polillo and Tim Bennett.

Bennett told MyPGNow.com he is grateful for the 16-year-run he had at the school district and city hall.

“I have had the absolute privilege to represent the community for the past 16 years between the school board and city council. It has been an absolute privilege to serve the community and tonight the community decided to go in a different direction.”

Bennett was also inter-perspective regarding the results.

“When I was first elected back in 2011, I didn’t have a kid and now I have four kids with my oldest being 13. This will give me some opportunity to spend a little more time and give back, support Prince George in a different way.”

Polillo, who followed a similar path to Bennett was anticipating change but not as much as what occurred.

“I knew we were going to have change with at least three new councillors elected. We are going to have five new councillors and I guess for me that’s surprising.”

“I look at the preliminary results and I was 400 votes away from being elected. In 2022, I think I had 5,700 votes and this time I was closer to 6,200 votes and didn’t get in.”

Garth Frizzell was elected as the new mayor beating out incumbent Simon Yu and two-term councillor Kyle Sampson.

Cori Ramsay, Trudy Klassen and Brian Skakun got re-elected to serve on council.
