The only thing standing in the way of the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team’s first win of the season was extra time.
A tying goal by Maria Georgacacos salvaged a 2-2 tie against the Timberwolves in the Canada West season finale on Sunday from Masich Place Stadium.
Georgacacos began the comeback in the 83rd as she re-directed a corner kick past T-Wolves netminder Johanna Rathke.
The anticipation towards a potential first win for UNBC built up rather quickly as Sophie Postlewaite re-directed a ball past Heat goalie Allyson Ford for a 1-0 edge.
Aimee Glasser’s speed to burn was on full display throughout the contest for the Timberwolves – but it was most evident in the 25th minute taking advantage of a turnover by Ford extending the lead to 2-nil.
Rathke made 10 saves in the tie for the Timberwolves. Ford stopped three Timberwolves shots.
On Friday, UNBC battled to a 1-1 draw against the Victoria Vikes.
Maresha Manulak let go of a bullet shot on a free-kick in the 69th minute that beat Vikes goalie Stefanie Mocnik.
An ill-advised pass by Lainey Stewart led to a breakaway for Quesnel’s Ruby Nicholas who made no mistake on Rathke to even the score at 1-1.
Nicholas was named the Canada West Player of the Year in 2024 leading Victoria with 8 goals and 7 assists.
In addition to her university career, she has played semi-professionally in League1 BC for Harbourside FC.
UNBC wraps up the 2026 campaign with a record of 0-12-2. It was the final Canada West game for graduating T-Wolves Kate Rattee and Kambria Mellum.
