Lockdown Freshman: Sicily Ramunno’s defensive prowess earns Canada West All-Rookie nod

For the first time in program history, a UNBC Women’s Soccer player has cracked the Canada West All-Rookie team.

First-year defender Sicily Ramunno received the honour this morning (Monday) from the conference.

The first-year defender made an immediate impact in the Green and Gold, establishing herself as a reliable presence on the back line while taking on a workload rarely seen from a rookie.

Ramunno played every single minute of UNBC’s 2026 Canada West campaign, logging all 1,260 minutes of the season.

“We’re thrilled to see Sicily receive this recognition and that coaches across Canada West have recognized her quality and contribution. She has not only excelled as a first-year player but her play has led the backline consistently through the season,” said head coach Neil Sedgwick.

“Her development since joining us from Kamloops United has been impressive, and we’re excited to see how she continues to grow through the winter and beyond. Ramunno’s ability to step into the university game and become an every-minute contributor is a significant achievement. Her selection to the All-Rookie Team adds another feather in the cap for a program that is on the rise.”

UNBC finished the season with a record of 0-12-2.
