College of New Caledonia unveils new computer lab

Finning and Thompson Creek Metals – Mount Milligan have each donated $25,000 to the College of New Caledonia in exchange for the naming rights for a new campus computer lab.

The new lab consists of 17 computers and workstations, chairs, desks a TV and more. It will be used mainly by the College’s Heavy Duty Mechanic students.

Finning Branch Manager Russ Peterson says they are treating this like a long term investment.

“It’s really seeding the marketplace of talent coming up through the ranks and education system and making sure we have a good pool of applicants when the time comes to hire.”

“It seemed like the right step to make when we looked to our future, reinvesting in the community building assets in the community, as far as a workforce.”

CNC Dean of Trades and Technologies Frank Rossi says the deal has been in the making for a couple years.

“We have to evolve with regards to more updated technologies, and this was one way of evolving. So the connection was made between our instructors and industry and together we worked to produce this.”

He says computers will be a huge asset to the program, adding that partnerships like this are what makes CNC such a valuable institution for the whole region.
