City Staff gave Council an update on Prince George’s Reconciliation efforts at Monday’s meeting.
The city continues to take steps to better the relationship with local indigenous people.
Some recent steps include renaming the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park and permanently flying the Lheidli T’enneh flag at City Hall. More recently holding a forum between the two and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
After a recent Affordable housing meeting, Councillor Susan Scott says she saw that the City’s recent efforts are working.
“I had several different people who (said) ‘I feel a part of this community more thanI ever have in my whole life’ and that was pretty amazing to hear,” she says.
She knows it’s important the city continues making these efforts.
“It creates a better climate and it creates a more inclusive setting for us to move forward together be it economic development, social development, the environment, everything. We’re stronger together.”
The City and the Lheidli T’enneh are also preparing a grant application to fix the Park’s picnic shelter.
