PG police to promote new bike recovery app to the public

Police in Prince George will be promoting their new bike app to the public this week.

Corporal Craig Douglass says Garage 529 has had a positive response.

“We have probably had a 95% rate of registration when we are at events and once people learn a little bit they are on board and words spread through the event pretty quick with people tracking us down instead having to track them down.”

Douglass adds every effort will be made to curb bike theft in the city. “The value of bikes is going up, the quality of bikes is going up and it’s a trend we want to stop by doing everything we can to prevent the theft of bikes but also give them back to owners once they’re recovered.”

529 Garage is a digital bike registration, reporting and recovery network which enables police and bike lovers to reduce bike theft and return stolen ones to their owners. (previous story)

The detachment will be at several locations across Prince George this week including:

Wednesday, July 13th 5:00 – 7:00 PM Prince George RCMP Building
Saturday, July 16th 11:00 – 2:00 PM VLA Family BBQ, Strathcona Park
Sunday, July 17th 9:00 – 5:00 PM Downtown Summerfest
Monday, July 18th 5:00 – 7:00 PM Canadian Tire
