Northern Health issues money to support HIV initiatives in the north

Northern Health has awarded $1.59 million dollars to support community-based HIV initiatives in the north.

8 agencies and 23 first nations were granted money including the Central Interior Native Health Society in Prince George.

Executive Director, Murry Krause says it will help them improve their Medication Adherence Program.

“We provide medication adherence for individuals to try and assist them to stay on their medication and to stop the flow of HIV in our community, sometimes it requires a lot of support so we will continue to do that.”

Krause adds the society will be taking a leadership role to provide advice on how to run similar programs across the region.

“Additional expectations of us will be documenting what we do and working with Northern Health so we can offer information to other communities on how they might set up their own Medication Adherence program.”

The society also provides support for 65 HIV patients in the city.

Positing Living North is the other Prince George program to receive money.
