Carrier Sekani Tribal Council to pay tribute to fallen soldiers

Over 50 Carrier Sekani war veterans will be recognized by the Tribal Council during Remembrance Day on Friday.

Tribal Chief, Terry Teegee says while Remembrance Day is the most common to pay your respects, another date on the calendar often gets overlooked.

“It’s not well known that November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day remembering those soldiers from across Canada and unfortunately that day isn’t as well-known as November 11th.”

Over 4,000 indigenous people served in the First World War and over 500 indigenous soldiers died for our freedom during the First and Second World Wars.

A Remembrance Day gathering will be held at the Prince George Civic Centre starting at 9AM with a ceremony to follow from the Cenotaph at 11AM.
