Festival of Trees ready to ring in holiday season

Prince George’s Festival of Trees returns on Saturday just in time for the holiday season.

Esther Prosser with Spirit of the North says opening weekend will be full of family events.

“We have lots of trees and a daily story time but the first Sunday is Family Day which is a really great day for people to come out with their whole family and just enjoy the festival. We have lots of extra special activities for that day.”

The 2015 edition had over 100 trees in celebration of the city’s 100 year anniversary.

This year’s festival should have no shortage of intrigue according to Prosser. “We have more of our normal number of trees with 40 big ones and 30 smaller ones, we’ve added a dance on Saturday night which has a live band so we have lots of new and exciting things going on.”

A holiday dinner and dance will feature Christmas style fixings.

Proceeds for the week long festival will support a Breast Imaging Center at University Hospital.
