BC Ministry of Education hosting PG open house on rural education

The Ministry of Education, along with Prince George School District 57, will be hosting an open house next week regarding BC’s stance on rural education.

Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Education Linda Larson will be leading the discussion on a number of topics, including infrastructure spending to teacher involvement.

SD 57 Board Chair Tim Bennett says this is a chance for all parents and organizations to voice their questions, comments, and concerns.

“And an opportunity to discuss with her and members of government administry staff about what your vision for rural education is and how we can best support students who are living in rural communities.”

“Students living in a rural community have an equal opportunity for a quality K-12 education. Our district has identified some key priorities and we’re going to bring those forward, including defining what ‘rural’ is in BC.”

The government has also been collecting feedback from the public via an online survey, which ended on December 31st, 2016, on how to improve strategy.

Bennett says he and his team will be attending the session.

“The Board of Education for School District 57 spent a lot of time working on developing processes and strategies to support rural education. Our district has also prepared a response for the written feedback component and we will be sharing those concerns through the process.”

The event takes place next Wednesday, February 1st at the Van Bien Training and Development Centre from 6PM to 8PM.
