Cougars extinguish the Blazers to claim weekend sweep

A six goal outburst in the second period propelled the Cariboo Cougars over the Thompson Blazers on Sunday by an 8-2 score from Kin 1.

Brennan Malgunas, Darian Long, Hunter Floris, Ty Kolle and Daine Dubois (2) all potted markers in the middle frame making life difficult for Thompson goaltender Ethan Langenegger who gave up 8 on 51 shots.

The on-ice dominance by the Cougars was also highlighted by a 26-4 shot differential at the conclusion of 40 minutes.

In third, Malgunas potted his second of the game followed by a late goal by Reid Perepeluk.

Tyson Gafer and Aleksandre Erichuk scored in a losing cause for the Blazers.

Cougars assistant coach Tyler Brough was kicked out of the game in the second period after arguing a call with the officials.

Cariboo has a bye next week and will continue play at home on February 11 and 12 against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.
