The Prince George Spruce Kings start their training camp Friday at the PG Coliseum. About 40 players will be on hand. The Spruce Kings, who expect a dozen veterans in their lineup this season, hold intra-squad White vs. Blue games Friday and Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 10am.

–The Spruce Kings have four pre-season games lined up:
September 2nd against the Silverbacks in Salmon Arm, September 9th against the Silverbacks in 100 Mile House, September 12th against the Vipers in Vernon and September 13th against the Vipers in Prince George.

–The Prince George Cougars have two pre-season games this weekend in St. Albert against Red Deer on Saturday (10:30am) and vs. Medicine Hat on Sunday (10:30am). The Cougars host Edmonton in exhibition games September 5th and 6th.

–The Cariboo Cougars gear up for the BC Major Midget season as they hold their training camp Friday to Sunday at CN Centre. The Cariboo Cats will conduct intra-squad games Saturday at 2:30 and 7pm plus Sunday at 12:45pm. They will start exhibition play at a pre-season tournament Sept 5 to 7 in Kelowna.

–The UNBC men’s soccer team beat Mount Royal 2-1 in an exhibition game played Wednesday night in Calgary.

–The UNBC Timberwolves men’s and women’s soccer teams will conclude pre-season action this weekend. The UNBC men host TRU Saturday and Sunday at 2pm at Rotary while the Lady T-wolves face TRU Saturday and Sunday in Kamloops.

–A big car count is expected for the hit to pass doubleheader Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at PGARA. $7500 in prize money will be handed out between the two main events. Meanwhile, the Prince George Auto Racing Association has acquired a decommissioned ambulance
(value of $5,000) which will be used at the track as a mobile first aid station.

–The 41st annual Labour Day Classic run will be held Sunday starting from the PG Civic Centre at 9am. Participants have several categories to choose from including the 17 mile and 8 1/2 mile run plus the 8 1/2 mile walk.
