Local snowboarder makes guest appearance

Meryeta O’Dine, Canada’s #1 ranked female snowboarder, made a special guest appearance at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Cetnre Wednesday.

The Prince George native participated in the Canadian Sport School, a program for high school aged athletes by Engage Sport North.

“They have nutrition, mental preparation, and organization lessons,” she says. “They cover all bases about going into professional sports.”

O’Dine was involved with the program for three years before making it to the international stage.

She explains what it means for her to be able to give back.

“I think it’s really cool because for so long they gave me so much support and help,” O’Dine explains. “I came here, I was able to be who I wanted to be, an athlete and really build myself.”

Next up for O’Dine is to qualify for Canada’s Olympic snowboard taem for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.
