PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Dennis Cholowski of the Prince George Cougars is one of six defencemen selected to play for Team WHL in the Canada Russia Series.

Team WHL will play Team Russia on November 6th and 7th in Moose Jaw and Swift Current respectively.

The OHL will host Games Three and Four, while the QMJHL host Games Five and Six.

The Detroit Red Wings first round pick in 2016 is ninth among WHL defencemen with nine points (four goals) in eight games.

Hockey Canada has chosen Taylor Gauthier of the Prince George Cougars as one of six goalies for the three Team Canada teams that will compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The eight-team tournament, featuring the top 16-year-old players in the world, will be played November 5th to 11th in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.

In four games this season, Gauthier has a 3.50 goals-against-average and a 0.857 save-percentage.

The P.G. Cougars play their next seven games on the road beginning Friday in Edmonton.

The Prince George Spruce Kings will journey to Vancouver Island.

The 7-4-2-1 Spruce Kings play Friday in Powell River, Saturday in Alberni Valley and Sunday in Nanaimo.

Prince George continues to lead the Mainland Division by a point over the Langley Rivermen as Langley lost 5-2 Tuesday in West Kelowna.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The 5-2-1 Cariboo Cougars visit the 2-4 Thompson Blazers Saturday night and Sunday morning in Kamloops.

The Major Midget Cougars are riding a six game unbeaten streak.

They are in fourth place, but just two points out of first.

 

NHL:

Anders Nilsson earned the shutout with 32 saves in his first start of the season for the 2-2-1 Canucks.

Meanwhile, the Canucks have lost forward Loui Eriksson for the next four to six weeks due to a knee sprain.

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Women’s Soccer)

The 3-7-2 UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team will visit Thompson Rivers Saturday and UBC Okanagan Sunday to conclude the Canada West regular season.

The Lady Timberwolves hold down the sixth and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division by a point over 3-8-1 Thompson Rivers.

The UNBC Timberwolves finished the Canada West men’s soccer regular season with a 5-5-6 record following that 1-0 victory over Fraser Valley in Abbotsford.

The UNBC men have a chance of making the playoffs but they need lots of help in results of some games this weekend.

The Timberwolves can qualify for the post-season if the University of  Victoria earns three points or less and UBC Okanagan earns one point or less in their remaining two games.

Victoria (5-7-1) faces Fraser Valley (4-7-3) and Trinity Western (6-4-4).

UBC Okanagan (5-5-3) has a pair of games against TRU (5-3-5).

 

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:

The Duchess Park Condors remain the top ranked team in BC boys AA volleyball this week.

College Heights has dropped from fifth to seventh, while DP Todd remains an honourable mention.

The Toronto Raptors host the Chicago Bulls Thursday in their season opener.

NFL:

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been granted another legal reprieve in his battle to avoid a six-game suspension over domestic violence allegations.

A federal judge granted a temporary restraining order that blocks the NFL’s suspension.

The ruling clears Elliott to play in Sunday’s game at San Francisco.

 

CFL:

There’s just three weekends left in the CFL regular season.

Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa and Toronto have locked up five of the six playoff spots.

The 8-6 Saskatchewan Roughriders need one more win or one more loss by the 6-8 BC Lions to secure the final post-season berth.

The Lions host Edmonton Saturday while the Riders visit Calgary Friday.

The Stamps have won 11 in a row.
