Cougars caught sleeping in Seattle

The Prince George Cougars carried a one-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation, but the reigning WHL champions soared back Friday night.

Seattle surged with three unanswered goals, eventually leading to a 5-3 win, handing the Cats their first loss of their three-game, three-day road trip.

The first frame’s lone goal went past Cougars’ goaltender Tavin Grant 11 minutes into the contest; he would end up making 26 saves on 30 shots.

Prince George took advantage of some opportune shots in the second period.

Forwards Vladislav Mikhalchuk and Josh Maser capitalized for their ninth and 13th goals of the season respectively, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The T-Birds scoring spree started 100 seconds into the third, followed by two more before Aaron Boyd gave the Cougars a chance with his sixth taly of the year with 1:31 left.

The home team however would add an empty-netter to hand Prince George their 15th loss for a record of 12-15-3-2.

Maser (1G, 1A), Boyd (1G, 1A), and returning Captain Dennis Cholowski (2A) each recorded a multi-point night.

The Cats continue on the road to Everett tonight to face the Silvertips; puck-drop is slated for 7:05PM.
