Northern BC Communities Worried About What Greyhound Plans To Do

The decision on whether Greyhound will be shutting down routes in Northern BC is still up in the air.

On Monday a consultation was held in Prince George for members of the public to voice their opinion on the matter.

If Greyhound goes forward with their plan it will hurt northern communities says Mackenzie District Councillor Andy Barnes.

“For many people it’s the only means of transportation and the fact we are off of highway 97 just compounds the issue of making it a problem.”

He adds his community would like to see the opposite of what Greyhound plans to do.

“In our perfect world we would like to see an increase in service instead of just one once a day. We use to have it twice a day and better times. I think coming south at 6pm everything is closed here when you arrive in Prince George or anywhere else further south.”

The company claims they don’t see the profitability in rural areas in the north, with a 46% decline in ride ship since 2010.

If approved, routes could be eliminated as early as January 7th.
