Cowichan capitalizes on sleeping Spruce Kings

Despite outshooting their opponents 39-15, Prince George was bested in the third period Friday night by the last place team in the BCHL.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals made the long road-trip up Highway 97 to the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA) worthwhile, defeating the Spruce Kings by a close 2-1 final.

Forward Ben Brar opened the scoring six minutes into the first frame, netting a short-handed after the home team took a too many men penalty.

Cowichan would follow with a quick tying goal 31 seconds in the second stanza; the game-winning goal came with over five minutes left in regulation.

Prince George remains tied for the top spot in the Mainland Division with Langley as their record drops to 21-13-4-4.

This was the only game over the weekend for the Spruce Kings, but they continue their four-game homestand Thursday, 7PM against the Penticton Vees.
