Cariboo Cougars put the brooms to South Island Royals

The Cariboo Cougars filled the net with pucks against the South Island Royals sweeping the two-game set by scores of 6-3 and 8-3.

The Cougars enjoyed a pair of three-goal periods on Saturday by six different players.

Brett Fudger, Matthew Marotta, and Brandon Dent found the back of the net in the first period as Cariboo built up a 3-2 edge at the end of the first.

Grady Thomas, Craig MacDonald and Mason Richey all added singles in the second putting the defending BCMML champions in front after two periods.

MacDonald and Richey then posted each their second of the game to salt away in the third to put an exclamation mark on the game.

Friday’s game saw MacDonald and Richey continue their scoring ways with a goal each followed by a pair by Hunter Floris and singles from Brandon Dent and Colton Kitchen.

Cariboo is one point behind Valley West for top spot in the BCMML after Valley West lost 3-2 in overtime Sunday to the Vancouver NW Giants.

The Cougars are back on the road next Saturday and Sunday against the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
