UPDATE: Restaurant, hotel north of McLeod Lake destroyed by morning blaze

UPDATE – 10:20AM:

According to multiple listeners, Windy Point has burnt to the ground as a result of this morning’s fire.

The hotel, restaurant, and gas station, located less than five kilometres south of the Highway 39 junction to Mackenzie, is a popular stop among truck drivers and commuters along Highway 97.

One witness says local firefighters are appearing to let the structure burn completely.

The road was closed briefly in both directions and its believed the fire started near the restaurant, but the above ground fuel tanks remain in tact.

UPDATE – 9:45AM:

Drive BC says Highway 97 south of the Highway 39 junction to Mackenzie has re-opened in both directions.

It was closed due to a fire burning at the Windy Point Restaurant just North of McLeod Lake.

It’s unclear at this time if the fire has been put out by local firefighters.

According to multiple listeners, a fire has broke out at a popular truck stop less than five kilometres south of the Highway 39 junction.

Windy Point Restaurant near McLeod Lake is up in flames, but the cause is unknown at this time.

Drive BC says Highway 97 is closed as a result in both directions, with no detour available for commuters, and police are on scene awaiting firefighters.
