Beaudry cracks top 30 in her first taste of Olympic competition

One Prince George athlete took over from another  in the women’s Biathlon 15km individual race today at the
PyeongChang, South Korea 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

In her first Olympic competition, Sarah Beaudry finished 29th in a field of 87 athletes.

She was second among four Canadians behind Rosanna Crawford who placed 26th.

The 23-year-old Beaudry replaced Megan Tandy of Prince George who has been in bed this week with a fever.

The Duchess Park grad went to the Games as an alternate on the Canadian team.

The race was originally scheduled for Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Tandy was 57th out of 87 in Saturday’s Sprint.

Next up in women’s Biathlon will be the 12.5km Mass Start on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George is scheduled to compete tonight (PT) in the women’s snowboard cross.

The 20-year-old O’Dine is 6th in the World Cup standings.

Canada is third in Olympics medals with 13 (four gold, five silver and four bronze) after picking up three more today.

Ted-Jan Bloemen won gold in men’s 10,000m speed skating. (Bloemen took silver in the 5,000m event on Sunday).

Canada’s luge relay team captured silver and Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford of Canada took the bronze medal in pairs figure skating.
