BC’s Poverty Reduction Strategy is meeting in Prince George tomorrow.
Government officials will meet at the Native Friendship Centre on third avenue, speaking with community members on how they picture poverty being reduced in the province.
“whether it’s housing or educational opportunities, it’s making sure for people who aren’t going to be able to fit into the workforce that they have a reasonable standard of living,” says Poverty Reduction Minister Shane Simpson.
Back in January, over 50 people attended the event at the Smithers Seniors Citizen’s Association where food security, mental health and shelter were identified as some of the concerns the participants had.
“Over 40% of the people who are living in poverty in British Columbia have a paycheck coming into the house and they’re not out on a distinct disability program. They’re working, but they can’t make ends meet,” added Simpson.
The meeting takes place from 1:30 to 4pm.
