MacDonald’s Olympic experience ends with heartbreak

Canadian speed skaters failed to win a medal in short track women’s 3000-metre relay for the first time since the event was introduced at the Olympics.

Canada and China were penalized after a massive collision during the finals of the event.

Jamie Macdonald of Fort St. James was one of five members of the team.

Due to a coach’s decision, the 23-year-old Macdonald was not picked to race in the final, although she did compete in Heat One on February 10th where Canada placed second to qualify for the final.

Canada captured silver in the women’s 3000-metre relay in the three prior Olympics.

Macdonald participated in one individual race which ended with a crash on February 10th in the women’s 500 metres preliminary.
