Spruce Kings slay the Surrey dragon, force Game Seven

The Prince George Spruce Kings made sure to save their best effort for last in the South Surrey Arena.

Down 3-2 in the best-of-seven Mainland Division Final, the visitors played a stellar road game earning a 3-1 victory over the host Eagles on Saturday.

It was the Spruce Kings first win in seven tries Surrey this season.

All of the scoring came in the second period with the Spruce Kings exploding for three consecutive goals in 2 1/2 minutes on Mario Cavaliere courtesy of Ben Brar and a pair from Ethan de Jong.

Surrey got on the board just before the intermission as Matthew Campese beat Evan DeBrouwer.

DeBrouwer made 37 saves as the Eagles outshot the guests 38-31 before 1,195 fans.

Prince George survived a five-minute major penalty to Liam Watson-Brawn who knocked out Eagles forward Desi Burgart out of the with a questionable hit.

The status of both players is uncertain heading into game seven Sunday night at 7PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

The winner of the series will face off against the Powell River Kings on Friday.
