Emotional support available through RCMP Victim Services following Humboldt crash

The RCMP Victim Services Unit in Prince George would be put to the test if a similar event like Friday’s Humboldt Broncos bus crash took place in our area.

An incident like that would see everyone deployed in some way according to Victim Services Coordinator Krista Levar.

“We have a large team of about 30 people and in the case of something like this everyone would be mobilized and we would be reaching out and giving out support for families and to do our best to get them through something this horrible.”

“It’s always terrible to give fatal news to family or a loved one and it’s devastating. Luckily, we’ve never had anything of this magnitude in Prince George.

Levar adds a tragic incident of this nature hits a smaller-city like ours pretty hard.

“I think it does hit home when you live in a smaller community and have like a really big hockey presence like the one in town here, it’s terrible to someone going through something like this.”

“Anyone who needs support or is having concerns, questions or feelings if they are upset about something is more than welcome to give us a call and we’ll point them in the right direction in getting them some help and support.”

Victim Services is located within the local RCMP building at 455 Victoria Street and offers 24/7 on-scene support as well.

The bus crash took the lives of 15 people while several others survived but their conditions vary in nature as the majority of them are still in hospital in Saskatoon.

The Prince George Cougars are inviting the public to come to CN Centre today & Wednesday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, to sign banners for both Humboldt and the family of Brock Hirsche.
