There’s still a lot of uncertainty of what legalized marijuana will look like across the nation.
Over winter and spring, the Senate looked at Bill-C45 and proposed 40 recommendations before passing it last week, and on Wednesday the government agreed to 27 of the changes.
Mayor Lyn Hall says it’s a waiting game to see what the federal and provincial government does.
“The province and the feds have got their agreement but we haven’t got one and I’m interested in knowing what the dollars will look like that will go to the municipalities. We envision there will be extra costs and we don’t want this to be a burden on our tax base.”
Lyn added he’s not concerned that they won’t be able to reenact and develop the correct bylaw policies and regulations but is wondering what kind of cost sharing they will see.
The federal government plans to legalize cannabis July 1st, but it may not happen until Labour Day.
